Can anyone assist me to answer the follwoing question (which I have to say I
am passing on and do not actually understand!)
What procedure does SPSS have for analysing mixed design experiment ---
Between and within subject (repeated measure) data ?

Google is your friend. Searching on <spss mixed anova> yields many hits, including instructional videos.
