spss does not a a dta file

news

Hi,

I try to import a dta data file via the menu but my SPSS 15 reports:

error #7202 Command name GET STATA
Input dictionary read error.
This command not executed.

The file in question ( here ) is a data file to do a replication of a study, and there are no other formats on the website to avoid the import error.

Any ideas to solve the problem ?

TIA

ftr

I have Stata V13 and even that says the file is too modern to open (Stata is only on V14 I think). You might send an email to the author and ask if he can post a csv file of the data - http://www.columbia.edu/~aw2951/. That dataset is the only one on his page that doesn't have an excel dataset to go along with it.

When SPSS 15 was released, the most recent version of Stata was version 8. While GET STATA does not require any version number specification, it's likely that the Stata data format has changed in some way that makes more recent Stata data files not readable by that version of SPSS.

As of version 23, SPSS Statistics should be able to read Stata files up to version 13.

I used Stat-Transfer to convert it and I think it worked. I put the SAV file
in Dropbox:
