Open SPSS 17 by Opening a Data File

Lightfoot Russell
Hello,
This is really a minor issue, but I used to be able to start SPSS and open a given data file by double clicking the data file in Windows Explorer. Now when I double click on a data file SPSS starts, but the data file does not open. Is there an option I can change to regain this functionality?
Thanks

Russ,

This was from a previous post from SPSS support ---

Katina confirmed that she had been double-clicking to open the file, and that it worked okay when she opened it via the SPSS menus. This is the workaround for now, but the problem with opening files via double-clicking should be fixed in Release 17.0.2.

However, I just installed the 17.0.1 patch from SPSS' website and this problem was fixed early.  (I experienced the same problem as you before downloading the patch).

I usually search this LISTSERV before posting a question.

So, try the patch and let us know if it worked.

Good Luck,
George

Russ,

No more double clicking, just drag and drop them (syntax, data or viewer files) into a SPSS working file window and they will open.
